Question
The BCD output is not being output from a
Meter with a BCD output. What should I do?
Answer
Is the REQ terminal open? Check the
connections again.
With the K3N[] Series, the BCD output data is output when an external REQ
signal is received.
(1) When a large Display Unit that accepts BCD inputs (such as an
M7E) is
connected, securely connect the REQ terminal and COM terminal.
Example Connection to a Display Unit:

2) When connecting to a PLC, create a ladder program that outputs an REQ
signal from the PLC and scans for data when the D.V. (Data Valid) signal
goes from OFF to ON.
Example Connection to a Programmable Controller:

• Timing Chart for BCD Outputs
(A Request signal from an external device (such as a PLC) is required to
read the BCD data.)
(1) One Sample of Data Output

About 30 ms after the REQ signal goes ON,
the data is set and the Data Valid signal is output. When reading the data
with a Programmable Controller, wait until the Data Valid signal turns ON
and then read the data. The Data Valid signal will turn OFF after 40 ms
and then the data will turn OFF 16 ms after the Data Valid signal.
(2) Continuous Data Output

If the REQ signal remains ON, the measured data will be output every 64
ms.
Note: If the HOLD input is used when
the data switches from Data 1 to Data 2, either Data 1 or Data 2 will be
output as the BCD data, depending on the timing of the HOLD signal. The
data signals will not be set to LOW.
